Welcome to the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at Syracuse University (SU). We are proud to be the center for multi-disciplinary student-centered programs across the electrical engineering and computing spectrum. Our renowned faculty maintain a student first philosophy while conducting research with global impact. As part of the I90 Technology Corridor we are excited to be at the heart of innovation in central New York with a significant national and international reach.

It is often mistakenly thought that computer scientists are all employed as programmers and that electrical engineers just take tons of math and physics. We are breaking that stereotype at SU! In fact, our department boasts the second oldest Computer Engineering program in the country! We currently offer three B.S. programs with Electrical Engineering and Computer Science programs in addition to Computer Engineering. All of these programs contain a 5-year straight to M.S. option to allow our students to move into more advanced positions straight out of school. Our offerings in electrical engineering connect often integrate principles of AI and machine learning. Our computer scientists can explore applications of computing for the social good, or sustainability. Our computer engineers can focus on software systems or neuromorphic computing as much as chip design and cyber-physical systems.

Furthermore, our programs take an experiential learning approach where students learn by doing with classroom concepts put into practice in our state-of-the-art laboratories. These programs are home to experiences through courses, projects, industry engagement, and research in topics that will prepare them for some of the most sought-after careers in areas including Artificial Intelligence, Quantum Computing, Next Generation Cognitive Wireless Systems, Cybersecurity, Sustainable Electronics and Computing Systems, Advanced Semiconductors, Cyber-physics and Autonomous Robots, and so much more.

We also offer M.S. degrees mirroring the B.S. programs we also offer two topical degrees in Cybersecurity and Operations Research & System Analytics. For instance, our Cybersecurity M.S. is ranked No. 2 in the country by Fortune. These highly acclaimed offerings attract some of the best students across intent to become the technical leaders in these fields. Our Ph.D. students can obtain degrees in Computer/Information Science & Engineering or Electrical & Computer Engineering and are the heart and soul of the research activities across so many different disciplines led by our diverse faculty.

Whether you want to make chips, design nuclear control systems, build the next generation of wireless communication systems, explore quantum entanglement, develop next generation AI, build a more sustainable electronics ecosystem, or management of massive amounts of data, there’s a place for you to do this and so much more at SU. Welcome to our world and Go Orange!
