Welcome to the Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS) at Syracuse University.

EECS brings together electrical engineering, computer engineering, computer science, and artificial intelligence in a single department. For our students, that breadth means the freedom to explore across traditional boundaries, combining computing, hardware, intelligent systems, and emerging technologies as they discover where they want to make an impact.

Students learn from and work alongside internationally recognized faculty, including six IEEE Fellows as well as Fellows of other prestigious scientific and professional organizations. Our faculty are advancing the state of the art in artificial intelligence, quantum computing and engineering, semiconductor devices and manufacturing, wireless and edge systems, cybersecurity, autonomous systems, computer architecture, and other emerging technologies. Students at every level have opportunities to become part of this research community and contribute to work with real-world impact.

Learning by doing is central to the EECS experience. Through hands-on laboratories and design projects, undergraduate research, internships and co-ops, student organizations, and industry engagement, students put ideas into practice and develop the technical and professional skills needed for their careers.

Syracuse also provides a unique location for these experiences. Central New York has a strong wireless communications industry and a rapidly growing semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem. Students can build relationships with companies and practicing engineers close to campus while also benefiting from Syracuse University's extensive alumni and industry connections in New York City, Silicon Valley, and other technology centers across the country.

We are particularly excited about our new B.S. and M.S. programs in Artificial Intelligence Science and Engineering. Students can study AI from software and algorithms through computer architecture, accelerators, embedded systems, and the hardware that makes modern AI possible. That same breadth exists throughout EECS, with opportunities to explore semiconductor technologies, communications, quantum systems, robotics, advanced computing architectures, software, data, algorithms, and cybersecurity.

Students who want to take the next step can pursue our 4+1 programs, providing a pathway to earn both a B.S. and an M.S. in as little as five years. Our M.S. and Ph.D. programs provide further opportunities for advanced technical study and research.

Whether you want to develop the next generation of AI, advance quantum technologies, design and manufacture semiconductors, build intelligent systems, secure critical computing infrastructure, or create new wireless technologies, we want to give you the knowledge, experiences, and opportunities to do it.

I invite you to explore EECS and discover what you can build here.

Go Orange!
