Syracuse University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science has partnered with select colleges and universities to create a direct pathway into our graduate programs. If you are completing your undergraduate degree at one of our partner institutions, you may be eligible for expedited admission into one of our nationally recognized Master of Science programs.

This pathway is designed for students who want to build a strong foundation in science, mathematics, or a related field during their undergraduate years, while keeping a clear and direct route into graduate level engineering study open to them. You do not need to have committed to engineering from the start of your undergraduate studies to take advantage of this opportunity.

How the Pathway Works

You complete four years of undergraduate study at your home institution, earning your Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in an eligible major. Once you meet the eligibility requirements described below, you receive direct or expedited admission into one of Syracuse University’s Master of Science programs in engineering or computer science. You then complete your graduate degree at Syracuse University, typically within two years, and enter the workforce with both a bachelor’s degree and an advanced engineering credential.

Students will participate either a summer bridge program hosted by Syracuse University, or concurrent bridging courses with their undergraduate or graduate program. This program is designed to prepare students, particularly those coming from a non-engineering undergraduate background, with the foundational engineering knowledge needed for success in a graduate program.

Eligibility Requirements

While specific requirements can vary by partner institution and by program, students generally need to meet the following criteria to qualify for direct admission:

  • Complete a Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in an eligible major at a partner institution
  • Achieve a cumulative grade point average that meets or exceeds the program minimum, generally around a 3.2 cumulative GPA
  • Provide a letter of recommendation from the chair of your undergraduate major or department
  • Participate in a Syracuse University bridge program to prepare for graduate level coursework
  • Maintain a record of good academic standing and character throughout your undergraduate studies
