Manufacturing and Energy Systems

Research in Manufacturing includes development and application of methods aimed at improving the efficiency and sustainability of manufacturing processes. Work in the area of Engineering Systems is focused on using methods of operation research and complex system analysis in system modeling and simulations. Predictive and distributed control methods are being developed for applications in systems, such as built environments.

Recent work is also focused on product development in concurrent and collaborative environment as well as strategies for the integration of Computer Aided Design and Computer Aided Manufacturing for increased efficiency during manufacture. Of interest in this integration approach is also the automatic synthesis of geometric tolerances.

Multidisciplinary Optimization techniques are employed to optimize various manufacturing processes. The method of physical programming is applied to facilitate decision making during product development and manufacture.
